My Husband Forgot His Passport Before Our Anniversary Flight—20 Minutes Later, Mom Called and Told Me Not to Board

“Please keep all those papers safe. I’m coming home.”

Then I ended the call.

Dereck looked at me in disbelief.

“You’re seriously canceling our anniversary vacation over some old tools?”

I stared at him.

“Don’t call them that.”

He rubbed his forehead.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“Then what did you mean?”

He looked toward the departure screens.

“We’re going to miss our flight.”

“Then we’ll miss it.”

For the first time in our marriage, I wasn’t going to let Dereck convince me that my feelings mattered less than his plans.

We left the airport separately.

I took a taxi home while he collected our luggage and followed in our car.
