My Dad Locked Me Out at −12°F for Missing My 10 PM Curfew—Then a News Crew Showed Up at Our House

At precisely six, I heard the front-door chain being released. Stiff, I climbed the steps. Dad waited, showered and shaved, in his robe with coffee. He moved aside.

“Good morning,” he said. “Now you know the rule holds.”

Warmth smelled of coffee and Mom’s vanilla candle. Inside, nothing suggested the night had happened.

I reported four points: my overtime, County 75, the ditch, the ambulance. Dad listened and nodded.

“Then you should have called before 10 and asked.”

“I texted at 8:15,” I said. “You read it?”

He lowered his mug.

“You informed me, Kayla. That’s not the same thing.”
