Aunt Carol Laughed, “That’s All She Gets for Playing Nurse”—Then Grandpa’s Lawyer Handed June a Sealed Envelope

June’s voice was barely audible.

“Who?”

Mr. Albright slid a photograph across the table.

It showed Grandpa thirty years younger.

Beside him stood a woman.

June recognized her immediately.

Her grandmother.

But there was another person in the photograph.

A little girl.

Maybe six years old.

June picked up the picture.

“Who is she?”

Mr. Albright didn’t answer.

June looked closer.

The little girl had Grandpa’s eyes.

And on the back of the photograph, written in her grandfather’s handwriting, were seven words:

The child your grandmother wanted me to find.

June looked up.

“Mr. Albright?”

He took a slow breath.
