My Daughter-in-Law Dropped Off 4 Kids for 14 Days Without Asking—She Had No Idea I Was Flying to Portugal That Afternoon

At 6:30 on a Thursday morning, my daughter-in-law appeared on my doorstep with four children, two suitcases, a duffel bag, and a bright red folder.

She walked straight into my foyer as though everything had already been arranged.

“Myrna, you’ll be taking care of the kids while we’re in Japan. It’s only two weeks.”

I stared at her.

“Two weeks?”

Tori barely looked up from her phone.

“Our flight leaves at nine, and traffic is going to be terrible. Everything you need is in the folder.”

She placed it on my kitchen counter.

Inside, apparently, were emergency contacts, school schedules, swimming lessons, bedtime routines, and instructions about what detergent to use for the youngest child’s sensitive skin.
